Champion is a specialization of the Warrior class in Dragon Age 3: Inquisition that focuses on defensive maneuvers and resembles a tank.


These powerful defenders protect their allies from harm, standing strong against devastating blows with expert training and fierce determination. Enemies can't kill them—and usually can't survive them.


How to Become a Champion

In order to receive this Specialization you must complete the quest Way of the Champion. It initiates by speaking with Lord Chancer in the Skyhold courtyard after completing the Specializations for the Inquisitor War Table Operation. You must collect 20 Veridium and 3 Heraldic Symbols from the 3 locations listed below. They are NOT random drops, but instead drop from 3 specific enemies. Once you've collected the above materials you must craft the Standard at an "Inspect Requisitions" bench.

Construct a proper standard, study the Champion’s code, and Lord Chancer will reveal the secrets of this proud and noble specialization. Fight champions for their Heraldic Symbols at: 1 in Ghilan’nain’s Grove, 1 in Halin’sulahn and 1 in Desolate Bank of The Exalted Plains. Readings can be found among the belongings of Blackwall or, if those are unavailable, among the wares of the book merchant in Val Royeaux.

  2. Duel three champions for Heraldic Symbols.
  3. Acquire 20 Veridium.
  4. Gather standard materials.

Active Abilities

You call upon the legacy of the greatest champions in history, defying enemies as you hold your position. This stops enemies from moving past you and enables you to block choke points.

  • Size: 6 meters
  • Duration: 12 Seconds
  • Cooldown Time: 20 Seconds
  • Cost: 35 Stamina
Your protected area increases, making it even harder for enemies to pass by

  • Bonus Size: 3 meters.


Line in the Sand no longer has a cost or a cooldown, and it lasts until you cancel it.

to_the_death.png To the Death

You taunt an enemy into a frenzy. Their damage output increases overtime, but so does the amount of damage they take. The effect ends if you get out of range of the enemy.

  • Range: 15 meters
  • Enemy Damage Output: 5% increase per second
  • Enemy Damage Taken: 5% increase per second
  • Cooldown Time: 32 Seconds
  • Cost: 35 Stamina
While To the Death is active, your guard improves as your target takes damage and you correct weaknesses of yourown.

  • Guard Amount: 25%


Seeing a challenged foe fall inspires you to hit even harder.

  • Damage Bonus: 30%
  • Duration: 10 seconds
  • Requires: Trespasser DLC

You may not be able to hold them off forever, but right now, nothing can touch you. You have complete immunity to damage for a short time.

  • Duration: 8 Seconds
  • Cooldown Time: 32 Seconds
Every attack that strikes you reduces your cooldown time and increases your guard.

  • Cooldown Reduction: 1 Second
  • Guard Amount: 10%


All of the damage you take while Walking Fortress is active is converted into focus.


Focus Ability

You push yourself to the limit, gaining full guard and taunting all nearby enemies. While the ability is active, you automatically counter all melee attacks. This ability consumes and is powered by focus.

Resilience.png Resilience

You don't flinch, don't blink, and don't back down. Enemies that hit you with melee attacks are staggered by recoil.

  • Stun Chance: 5%
  • Stun Duration: 2 seconds
  • Constitution on Unlock: +3

Unyielding.png Unyielding

An attack that would bring you down instead leaves you with a small amount of health, and you are immune to all damage for a short time.

  • Invincibility Duration: 5 seconds
  • Health Threshold: 5%
  • Cooldown Time: 60 seconds
